Back to the real world...

Options
Ok, so.... having been a student and living in my own little bubble I have now been thrown back into the real world! Since I left university in May I have moved in to the house my fiance lives in with his two friends (being the only female in a house of 3 grown men is NEVER easy - or sanitary...) and have managed to bag an above-minimum-wage job in our little town while I sort myself out.

I have completely forgotten how to take care of myself in an adult way (I worked and lived on my own for 4 years before uni) and so even shopping for more than one meal at a time is proving difficult!

But getting engaged six months ago has spurred me on to sort out my debts so I can start saving for the wedding of dreams (and an even better honeymoon!)

This is my diary, and I promise to post more often than I did when I first joined two years ago (to date this is my second post!)

I have a nasty habbit of using my credit card, paying off the minimum payment then re-spending that money the next month, so a place to show my naughty-ness will hopefully disuade me from doing so!

Mu debt is not that high, and granted most of it is student loan which is "good debt", I have recently been refused any more credit and so am unable to lower interest rates etc.

So here's to paying everything off, most expensive debt at a time! :j

hi spalding and welcome to the boards.
do you know the interest rates on all your debts? if you pay the highest rates of first you'll be saving yourself some interest which you can then use to overpay elsewhere.
Have you set yourself a realistic budget as that is going to be key and will give you something to monitor yourself against each month.
good luck i'm sure you'll succeed here.

    Hi,

Oh the wonders of sharing with 3 blokes ( god never ever again). Just wondering, do you share the cooking/meals or is it just for you and your OH?
Proud to be dealing with my debt:eek:

TOTAL: £6,437 (04/01/2013) slowly but surely it is decreasing:D

Lemon Tree - My initial worry is my credit card as it has the highest interest, once my loan is paid off (one more payment to go!) the money used for this will go toward my credit card as well so should hopefully be paid off quite quickly.

I have budgeted to live much the same as I did as a student, spending only the bare minimum! And the rest is going towards debts.

Catspaw - In my house the local chinese and pizza delivery are on speed dial! I have seen the other two boys cook about 3 times in total and they live on takeaways every night! Me and my OH cook for ourself and occassionally (one a month or so) we all cook together. Don't even get me started on the dishes! For boys who don't cook, they dirty an incredible amount! And I'm afraid they haven't yet realised that filling the sink and putting in the dirty dishes doesn't actually mean they miraculously end up back in the cupboard clean and sparkling!

I think that paying off my debts may be hindered by the fact that my OH and I are looking to move into our own place, which is always expensive, but I actually count it as a necessity!
