Hello,

All depends what type of job / who you work for.

FSA (Financial Services Authority) regulated roles are affected although does not always mean you cannot perform that role.
    Police - certain roles.
Judge - again affected depending on role.

Your emploment contract may have a clause in it. Check it out & see. Otherwise I would not mention it. Personal financial information does not need to be shared ...they cannot find out unless they breach the Data Protection Act 1998. No-one will tell them.

If it is a small company you work for their wages department may notice nil tax coding.

This can however be because of other reasons other than BR.

Good luck for the end of the week.

I told my boss about the BR before i did it. I recieved great support from him. I figured he would know incase I got a nil tax code.. i didnt as i went BR in jan and they didnt have time to enforce it.
for the record the main reason for nil tax code is:
    1, BR
2, uni student working holls only
3, someone who lives abroad but travels to work in uk?
  • Your Bankruptcy will normally be reported in the legal notices of your local paper, so if your employers local he may find out anyway.

Noticed recently that only business related Br are being published in my locals...thats in North Notts anyway...not sure how the approach is nationally.

In some ways if you have a good relationship with your employers then it may be good to be open about it & tell your Manager/Boss...saves any future uncertainty.

    Thanks for all the replies....
I work in a small company but they outsource the payroll, so they may not notice.. I work in a respite centre.

I have only been employed there a short time and it's quite a gossipy place and so really don't want them to know, but if they find out then I will just have to live with it (am living with much worse)!!!

    Thanks again,,

Let them gossip I say! You have nothing to be ashamed of. And if they have nothing better to talk about then they have very sad lives!
