silicone cooking utensils?

are they the way forward? i find wooden ones get stained and are a nightmare to clean if something dries on, plastic ones melt and are a nightmare to clean around the melted bits and metal ones get hot and scratch off the non-stick!

i think cos they are soft and bendy i am a little dubious about their heat resisting tendencies... what do you think?

I have a silicon spatula and pastry brush. I love them :) It's great for scraping cake mix out of bowls and the brush is easier to clean than a standard pastry brush and doesn't shed hairs everywhere.

They are more heat resistant than your average plastic ones :)

  • I love my silicone utensils - very heat resistant and kind to non stick pans. If you can`t find them at a good price and can be patient they have them in Lidl every few months for around £2.99 each iirc.

I really really love my silicon pastry brush. I use it pretty much daily on my cast iron pan to rub oil in when I've dried it on the hob so it copes with the heat really well.

I got some in B&M a little while ago and they were pretty reasonably priced. Definately a fan here (not to mention I love the fact that mine are pink!)

Some of them arent heat resistant, the Ikea one I had slightly melted when I was making orange curd so just check on the label to make sure that they are heat resistant.
They are indespensible when scraping down when baking :)

Morrisons sell heat resistant silicone spatulas in nice bright colours quite cheaply. I use one for scraping out the porridge pot when dishing up, makes cleaning the pan much easier
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I only recently tried sillicone bakeware and loved it so much sent hubby back today for more lol.

Got mine from B & M bargains, a 6 hole muffin tray (that made lovely muffins so now got second one) for £1.99. An 8 pack of sillicone "bun" liners-like the paper ones for angel/butterfly cakes but reusable (again loved these so now own 16) for £1.29.

Also got a sillicone loaf "tin" but not tried it yet for £1.99, going to make a maderia or lemon drizzle cake tommorrow.

Early days with mine yet, but I haven't seen any stains. I found it easy to pick up even with the cake mix in and slide in the oven although it was a bit wobbly. Second time I set it on a metal flat tray to slide it into the oven easily.
