Excellent! I applied and was accepted :D unfortunately I was at work when they tried calling, but they left a message and I'm going to ring them back today to arrange the lessons - thank you!
  • I'm doing mine next week, I passed 10 months ago and haven't driven since but they said that was ok and you don't have to practice in the week because obv we don't all have a car lol.

Anybody already been on it n know what it's like?

And does it help with insurance costs?

I've got a place on this! :D They kept calling when I was busy with one thing or another, but I've got my workbook pack thingy, and my first lesson on Saturday.
  • Would this apply to me even though I passed over 3 years ago, clocked up 61,000 driving miles and have over 3,500 driving hours?
  • I got a place on this too start in September got my welcome pack through wohooo! Think i need it too my driving is badddddddd

my sister signed up for this course. she got into the car for the first session and the instructor basically mocked, abused, belittled, insulted and undermined her ability and her confidence relentlessly for the whole hour. eventually she decided she had had enough and just walked out.

the aa evidently employ some very, very poor instructors. if you are a new, unconfident driver, be afraid. be very afraid.

Just had two brilliant lessons - would recommend this driving instructor to anyone in the Cardiff / Penarth area - pm me if you want his name.

Very encouraging, relaxed and enthusiastic, happy to concentrate on fuel-efficiency as he was happy with my driving (safety-wise), said he had really been enjoying doing these fuel-efficiency lessons and had improved his own mpg as well!

He had a display that showed your miles per gallon while driving, and then calculated it over the whole journey
Average mpg after the first lesson - 38
Average mpg after the second lesson - 41.5

He worked out from my till receipts and mileage in the week before and after the first lesson that I am already saving about a mile per litre (= 4.5 miles per gallon?) of petrol compared to my old driving style (so two free trips into work and back every time I fill up) when driving my own 12-year old car!

Sorry to the person that had a bad experience - suggest you let the AA know as I am writing in to say how good this guy was.
Learning to live with an IVA - no overdraft - no credit cards - no safety net - very very scary _pale_ All advice gratefully received! :A

yes, my sister has been in touch with the AA, but all they seem to do is call her and ask her to repeat the story over and over again. they must have asked to hear it 3 or 4 times now. maybe the staff can't quite believe it themselves...

I had my first one the other day. It was pretty good, my mpg went up from 37 to 43, which I thought wasn't bad at all!
  • My instructor doesn't know what drive smart is and said I can fill the book in so I haven't even had my mpg...got the second lesson today. Oh well, can't complain at 2 free lessons...just thought it was something else lol
