Pilates DVD

I suffer from Osteo arthritis and my physio has suggested I try out Pilates. As this is something I would prefer to do in the comfort of my own home I have been looking at DVD's but they vary a lot in price and have mixed comments when I look at reviews.

Please can anybody recommend one, bearing in mind that I am looking for something to help manage my Arthritis and not to lose weight (although that would be a bonus ;)).

Thanks

As a fellow arthritis sufferer (and a total hip replacement recipient) I can thoroughly recommend pilates. Like you, it was recommended by my Physio.

I'm lucky enough to attend a free weekly pilates class (an initiative between the NHS and local council to get the residents more fit and active) and don't think I'd be disciplined enough to work out with a DVD!

I do recommend a book called "15 Minute Pilates" by Lesley Ackland for precise, easy to follow pilates exercises with clear photos.

I'd also recommend you check out Dru Yoga. It's a gentle form of yoga with the less able-bodied in mind. My instructor also has a hip replacement. There is a website:
http://www.druworldwide.com/ and you'll find various free taster sessions that run all over the country.

Its a stretching/balancing exercise, designed to tone, strengthen, improve posture and make flexible. Looks easy, can be jolly hardand is particularly meant to be very good for the core muscles. The neareat comparable, to my mind, is yoga. :)
