OH wants to opt in to NHS pension...

hello,

wondering if anyone could help? My husband is 35 and has worked for the NHS for about 10 years. When he first joined he was on a student wage and therefore opted out of the scheme, as he says he couldn't have afforded it.

I've been putting the pressure on for a few years for him to opt back in - he's now conceded that i'm right, he is now band 6 so he can afford it.

Trouble is he's still been putting it off for months by saying that all the personel dept have been laid off and these are the people who would have administered it, and says his bosses simply don't have the time to sort this out for him - in short he is driving me nuts!!

He has been given the website address, but he can't see anywhere to apply to the scheme online, does anyone know how to opt back in?

Sometimes it is like having an extra child:eek:

His trust will have a pension advisor linked to finance department. He just has to sign a form to opt back in.

Obviously this is just an excuse, as both you & he ( & probably everyone on this forum knows) that the WHOLE personel department has not been made redundant. Question is Why is he delaying? You have to ask him direct. Tell him you know he is telling porkies, & ask him outright. From a financial point of view, it makes sense to join. It is still a very good pension scheme, it will give him ( & you) protection should he die before retirement, & he will get tax relief on his contributions. So there must be another reason he is reluctant. Talk to him.
