Hi
I am writing on behalf of my mother who had a letter from the Pru this morning stating that she owes them 3.5K worth of overpayments that they made from her fathers pension.
Her father died in 95 and the death cert was sent to the Pru to confirm this, however, with no communication from the Pru, her fathers pension continued to pay out £36.50 per month for 8 years after his death. My mother assumed that this was correct and that the pension was set up to payout after death.
Anyway, the Pru now want these overpayments paid back (without interest) at a sum of 3.5K. She has not got this money and feels that although it is an error on her part there is obviously some incompetence from the Pru.
She would be able to pay it back at the rate it was paid to her.
Any advice would be useful
Thanks in advance.

With no communication, it suggests that they never got the death certificate and were not aware of his death.
Pru are correctly entitled to have this money returned to them and her best bet is to open communication with them and let them know she hasnt got the funds to pay it but could drip feed it to them. Thanks for the reply. I have spoken to the Pru who have agreed to let my mother drip feed at £60 per month for 4 years. Not too bad in the end.0

That's a rather rash assumption if my own experience of communicating with insurance/investment companies is anything to go by.dunstonh wrote:With no communication, it suggests that they never got the death certificate and were not aware of his death.
I've recently been 'communicating' with Legal & General who say that two letters I sent were not received and a phone call when I was promised a response was not actioned. Strangely the 'recorded delivery' did get a response.
Just as likely to be a c/u by the Prudential.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0
