Mortgage advice please!!!

Hi,
I was on a variable rate with the halifax and I went in to see them about changing to a fixed rate. The advisor told me to pay off £3100 to reduce the term meaning I would have 7 years left on my mortgage. She then set me up the fixed rate mortgage. I have just received today my mortgage statement and an early repayment charge of £2050 has been applied. I was never informed about this and I certainly wouldn't have paid £3100 off my mortgage for £2050 to be added back on to it. Is there anyone who could advise what I can do about this please? Thanks Mark

Complain to the branch in the first instance - speak to the manager, bring in any documentation you were given at the timepoppy100

I'll go into the branch, you would think that they should have told me about the charge considering we were setting up a mortgage with them.0

What type of rate were you on before this new fixed rate?0

When you took the original mortgage out, did it have a tied in period after the fixed rate ended? Could you have still been in this ?0
