  • Thanks both - I've also got a "bar" of countrylife butter that I've just discovered in the fridge :o so I think I'll go with that rather than the spreadable.

Fingers crossed ...... oh, I can smell them now!

Haven't seen the melting moments recipe but will have a hunt for it now!:D

Just printed this recipe off cheers:beer: will give this a go this morning
  • I make fruit scones for dds lunchbox, I don't alter flour quantity. I just use tesco value spread and it works fine, I also add a pinch or two of mixed spice - extra yummy :)

  • I've just made cheese and garlic scones this morning using a be-ro recipe :-) I just use Lurpak Garlic Butter I stead of regular butter and I double the amount of cheese and they are sooooo good! I make them really small too (using the smallest of my cookie cutters) so I get about 25 from the mix.
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j
  • Well ... pleased to say, not bad for a 1st attempt (but not as good as DMs;)).

I couldn't find my pastry cutter (inherited it years ago and has never been used:o) so I've obviously hidden it somewhere "safe".... but eventually found something that did instead.

Think a double sized batch is def needed though so have some left to freeze next time!

I bought a new Bero book and a lot of the recipes are different from the old one. A lot less sugar is used and i didnt like the results.

Glad I kept my old one, its about 45 years old and the new one has been archived.

Try the rock buns OP, easy peasy,
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Mine's a 38th edition - not sure what year it was published.

I did have an even older one which I gave to my best pal when she lost hers in a move!

Dunno why,but ive always hated the "rubbing in" of butter into flour to make breadcrumb consistencey for scones etc...last night i used my food mixer(cheapy Lidl one)...scones ended up looking more like thick biscuits..is this cos i used the mixer?,would the food processor have coped better,or is it bare hands or nothing?....ive always enjoyed cooking, but ive never been a baker, just trying to get into the art of home baking now. Thanks
