00:01 08Jul09 - UK shop price inflation eases to 0.7 pct yy in June-BRC
LONDON, July 8 - British annual shop price inflation eased to 0.7 percent in June from 1.3 percent in May -- its weakest since December, as food price inflation hit a 14-month low, British Retail Consortium data showed.
The BRC said on Wednesday shop prices rose 0.2 percent month-on-month in June, after a rise of 0.5 percent in May.
Annual food price inflation slowed to 5.6 percent in June from 6.4 percent in May and the lobby group said it was likely to keep falling as a recent rise in the pound had lowered the cost of imports and dented foreign demand for UK produce.
Annual non-food price inflation, meanwhile, remained in negative territory for the seventh month in a row, down 1.9 percent in June after May's 1.3 percent annual decline.

Time for some more "printy printy" then......:D“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

Not a chance Jock....
Gen, my opinion is deflation of everything bar soft commodities... dont want to be holding gold i reckon.0 -
This will all reverse when the pound begins its next leg down..... which appears to be already happening, not to mention the impending return of (at least) 17.5% VAT.0

Remember how they 'leaked' the VAT reduction over the weekend to muddy the picture of the WORST BUDGET IN LIVING MEMORY. Wonder what the spin is this time around? I suppose they just don't say anything and no one notices. Vat up, taxes up, N.I. up - look people - watch this shiny thing (like a penny off wart remover or somesuch) - while we carry on screwing you for every damn penny. This will all reverse when the pound begins its next leg down..... which appears to be already happening, not to mention the impending return of (at least) 17.5% VAT.0 -
Even if you believe the figures............
Inflation falling from 6.4% to 5.6% doesn't mean prices are falling. It just means they are not rising as fast as they were.
