Got a 2 letters in the post yesterday (Saturday) from the above one letter saying a rep would visit, the other stating,
" as you have failed to pay previous agents instructed by our above client (referring to my Clydesdale Bank Mastercard) we have now been authorised to recover the full amount you owe". Blah blah blah call this number we will assist you in resolving this debt.
This is all news to me as I have been paying an agreed sum of £18/mth towards a £2500 debt for the last 4 months, they have a copy of my financial statement. Surely Clydesdale Bank should notify me first with regards to their intentions. I don't know who the "previous agents" are, again a new one to me.
The last contact from them was last month when they said they were going to re-instate interest charges and I wrote back on the 15/6/09 stating my circumstances hadn't changed and would continue to pay the same amount, I even got my statement from them last week as normal.
I will contact them in the morning and see what they are after, the agreed sum was a pro-rata payment and this is all I can afford.
Any thoughts much appreciated, what about someone visiting do I have any rights.
Another thought, I bank with the Clydesdale, have my mortgage, overdraft and wages paid there, should I think about changing banks?
Tia,
Allan.

Hi nalla, Sorry to hear you are experiencing the Brunswick effect!!..I banked with the Clydesdale Bank for 20 odd years but when I got into bother they quickly passed me onto these clowns, Im guessing your in Scotland..if so you may have the same experience as I did with them, basically getting ever more threatening letters, told they will visit etc etc
I ignored them completely and continued to correspond with the bank, they never visited and I didnt ever give out my mobile number to anyone, the bank gave them my parents number but I kicked up merry !!!! as I dont live with my parents and they are retired and were getting calls from Brunswick who wouldnt even say who they were..threatened them with all sorts and the calls stopped.
Eventually after lots of letters but no visits the Clydesdale Bank then wrote to me to say that the debt was being passed to Scotcall (an agency in Glasgow I believe)..Im guessing Brunswick werent able to carry out their threats in Scotland but whatever the reason they dropped off the scene..
They also use a solicitor in leeds whose name escapes me but if you google Brunswick Im sure it will pop up. This clown was chasing my wife (also debt on Clydesdale Bank credit card) and they contacted a sheriff officer where we live to call round and speak to her, guy was actually brilliant and said that a friend of his was bankrupt because of the Clydesdale Bank..his opinion of them was pretty harsh...anyway my wife refused to answer his questions and he happily went away so we await the next installment!!
For me, I was declared bankrupt on July 31st so the Clydesdale Bank can go swivel for me, wish I had never dealt with them...
Brunswick cant do anything to you regarding visiting etc..just refuse point blank to let them in if they did come round, they are not bailiffs/sheriff officers, you dont have to talk to them but I would seek proper advice and keep yourself right...search the forums on here, brilliant advice from some of the folks on here..
And most importantly, dont let them get to you, get advice and be informed because when your informed you can deal with these scumbags with confidence and they hate dealing with people who cant be scared and know their rights..
Good Luck to yaNever Regret anything that made you Smile -
Declared Bankrupt - 31st July 2009 - Hard Luck Clydesdale Bank PLC, Here's one person who doesn't have to talk to you anymore!!!0 -
Hi, It's probably worth opening a basic account (no cheque book or overdraft) with a different bank to get wages/benefits etc... paid into.
Make sure that the new bank has no connections with the Clydesdale!
Don't let the debt collection agency scare you, they will bully and threaten all sorts but they have the powers of a boy scout!
DO NOT telephone them or enter into conversations with them on the phone!
Deal with them in writing only!
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0
