cheapest way to call ROI from NI?

looking for the cheapest way to call ireland from the north. wont have a land line so has to be mobile.
looked at vodaphone but free roaming ends at end of august and calls are still quite expensive (too used to free o2 to o2 calls!)

Anyone know best way to do it could buy a ireland o2 sim card if it might be cheaper.

Thanks

    Re Vodafone free roaming

Don't think this applies if you are calling ROI from the North

I think you have to be roaming in the ROI and receiving/calling from NI for this to apply

18185 is best for land lines

talkmobile (carphone warehouse network that piggy backs on vodafone) has a world sim that is pretty good value - talkmobile.co.uk

Stand at the border in Newry & shout :rotfl:

Seriously though, have you considered buying a southern O2 sim iirc they don't charge roaming home rates, so a southern payg sim may save you a few pounds / euros

If you get a vodafone Ireland sim card you can receive calls for free and if the other person also has vodafone Ireland they can phone other vodafones for free for a month after top up

Thanks. Have found O2 do an Ireland bolt on. Bascially the phone thinks it is in the UK so can make calls at the same rate. Which is free as will be o2 to o2 on friends and family.

Get a ROI 3 prepaid sim. They have a system called "Three Like Home" which will cost the same as being in ROI.
