Mortgage application + credit report

Hi there,
I am submitting a mortgage application on Tuesday as a first time buyer. Several years ago I had a joint bank account with an ex, however the account has never been used. I spoke with the bank last week and they will not close the account unless they have two signatures, I cannot get the other signature so this is not possible.
I have viewed my credit report and this persons name is mentionned as an associate. Said person has not got the best credit history and I think this is affecting my overall score, as I have a good credit history, no late payments etc. Now I spoke with the relevant credit agencies and will get notes put on my file to explain.
But would this affect my chances of getting a mortgage? notes or not? And is there anything else I can do?

Many thanks,

Is it not possible to close your side of the account at least?

If that account hasn't been ever used, there's nothing to associate you with your ex, surely?

Thats what I thought but it is on my file about being associated. Local bank, Abbey, says that they need two signatures to close. Not sure what to do

    Hi,

You could apply to the credit agencies (Experian and Equifax) with a notice of financial dissociation (I think that's what it's called). Basically it's to prevent you being scored with someone you have no current relationship with but were associated with in the past. Then you can tackle the account separately.

    What do OPs think?
