Would not have another one of these given to me for free. Rubbish they are. Got my daughters one each at Christmas, 2 weeks later they went back to the shop. Both would not work. One would turn on, the other would not do anything once it was turned on !!

Ultra compact and weighs just 650g! It's an excellent travel companion, the ideal first PC and also great for carrying around the house.

The keyboard is tactile, the mouse features a retractable wire and the 7" screen provides a perfectly clear image. Able to connect to the internet wirelessly.

    Features:
    • 400MHz Processor
    • 2GB Storage
    • 128MB Ram
    • Full QWERTY keyboard, mousepad and mouse
    • 7" Widescreen LCD Display
    • 3x USB 2.0 Ports
    • 1x SD Card Slot
    • 1x RJ45 Network Port
Software: The ONEt+ has a whole software suite preinstalled including, Linux, a word processor, spreadsheet software, internet browser. This enables you to surf the web wirelessly, check emails, play mp3's and more. (Please Note that the ONEt+ does not support flash. Flash is used to stream animation and some video's on websites. This will result in certain websites that use flash not displaying correctly e.g YouTube.)

    In the box you'll find:
    • Elonex ONEt+
    • User Manual
    • Retractable USB Mouse
    • 1GB USB Wrist Vault
    • Earphones / Mic
    • Neoprene Slip Case
    • USB Multi-Memory Card Reader
  • I'm still struggling to understand what use one of these would be.
Some mobile phones have more power than these. 128mb of RAM isn't going to run Windows XP very well and you'll have to have a seriously stripped version to get it under 2gb!

And it doesn't do flash so you can't even argue it as a "web browsing machine".
I'd save your pennies and buy a proper netbook (it wasn't so long ago that a "proper" Acer Aspire was being sold off for £129.99)

And if it's because you're very short of money, you'd be better off buying one of the £99 desktops that were floating around recently.

I didnt think windows could ever run on theses machines and main processor isnt x86 (i.e. Needs software specially compiled\made for this machine). I would agree that this is not a bargain, and may well be a waste of money. That said, what would be a good price for these machines, there must cone a point where these are better altenatives to VTech toys for little kids as a first PC?

Sorry but just because it doesn't run XP doesn't make it a poor machine, I have for the past 2 years gone without any form of M$ OS, I don't have to run an AV/AM scanner (slowing down my machine) because like this I use LINUX

I agree that flash MAY be an issue depending on the sites you visit, I don't visit many flash dependent sites and also don't miss the stupid flash animations that some sites use.

I would suggest that an Asus 701 would be better value now that they have dropped in price.

These have been on Bargain Crazy for months and were cheaper than this a few weeks back. They seem to have managed to sell the black one now though. My husband said the spec is absolute rubbish.

I'm a Linux user too, but I also use Windows. There's a time and a place for everything.

And don't be too smug about not having any anti-spyware, some of the newer stuff runs under Java which is, of course, a huge part of the OS.

You would still struggle to get a decent distro running on this. Most users could use something like Xubuntu with a bit of patience, but even then, it's hardly going to run like a beast on something like this. You should be OK I guess with a non-gui version. Linux isn't for everyone - there's not the driver support of Windows neither is there the application support (not to mention a lot of users like gaming).

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of flash, but I'm also not going to be put off sites just because they use it.
For instance, just last week, I needed some trainers. Nike had a rather good sale on their site. Unfortunately, it's flash only.

    Agreed.

You would struggle to find a decent distro to run on this; the processor in the Elonex ONEt is RISC-based. According to this, it doesn't support WPA either.

I actually have one of these, from when they came out- and yes it is tin pot, and a bit temperamental, but basically as I have a pc downstairs, I use it when I am upstairs- I can e mail on it, do word processing, check my 3 main websites (here, facebook and flickr) and surf the net to a degree.
