Have both B&M and Poundies - although prior to my LBM I was too much of a snob to shop there :o

However, I am reformed (faced with possible BR) I will shop wherever I can save a pound or two. I no longer buy biscuits - I use to buy them in case of visitors arriving - but now I bake a few buns with DS. DH prefers my buns and simple homemade food so I suppose that's the way to go - spuds, spuds and more spuds!

I've just put some bread into the freezer as it had to be used by tomorrow and I've gone up the garden to get some spuds and spring onions. Lettuces and radishes are ready and carrots, beetroot and tomatoes are coming along nicely.

I've asked DH to bring home milk so I don't have to go out and be tempted to buy something - also, it's a sneaky way of him paying for some food ;)

Notso, i'm the same with spuds i cannot believe i would avoid peeling potatos like the plague! Now it's all i do and it does taste so much nicer. I may copy you and try making buns and cakes instead of buying them suppose it would be some nice QT with my daughter as well! I must admit i was the same i wouldn't have set foot in B&M but i've made a few purchases from there and so far anything i've bought has been great quality not what i would expect for the price! Your veg sounds great so wish i could do this but my garden is too small i think.

Also think my newest addiction is MSE i'll come on here for one hour only and i'll still be here 3 hours and 4 cuppas later! Better go and do some studying and worksheets with DD. Will speak soon keep positive we'll be debt free in the end and sensible spenders ;)

Katieshopstoomuch - know you've logged off to go do something more productive - but this is so addictive (perhaps something to do with our addictive personalities!!)

I don't think any garden is too small to grow veg - my spuds are in bags and I know veg/herbs can be grown in pots. I use to grow stuff then bin it because it didn't look like it does in sainsburys - oh, how things have changed.

  • :hello: Hello...not so good...I've just read your diary and thought i'd pop in and say hi...

I have similar debts to you, and only had my LBM flashing on and off this year and have finally GOT to tackle them.. I started a diary but have been a lazy/busy wotsit this last few days.. note to self.. update diary...

I also do ebay and can work overtime.. If i can just stop reading MSE all the time.. I have set myself a target of paying off 10% by christmas if you fancy a challenge...!!!! I'm also seeing that most of the excess expenditure is being eaten.. so i'm planning on reducing my grocery shop from +£100 a week to an ambitious £60... have managed to achieve this for the last 2 weeks... Anyways just popped in to wave...

Time2growup - have read your post and started to read your diary but DS has interupted as he wants to make ice lollies. Will reply properly later but may be interested in your challenge!

Katieshopstoomuch - my soup always tastes like dishwater, may need some tips!

  • OK - quick recap for today.
    • Another NSD - I didn't leave the house!!
    • Listed some books on Greenmet - hopefully this will be more successful than ebay for book sales. (Note to self: do not buy any more books - visist the library)
    • Checked to see if it's possible to reduce debt by 10% by Christmas - highly unlikely but I'm going for it anyway.
    • Updated accounts spreadsheet so that all figures are accurate.
    • Snowballed (again!) - DFD still Dec 2014
Think that's all for today - tomorrow I go back to work so I may be tempted to spend (although I do need to buy a diary...)

  • Well done on another NSD! I'm aiming for one tomorrow as well. I haven't tried greenmet myself i could maybe list all my old study books on there, does it cost to list?

I had never heard about greenmet until I read about it in someone else's thread. All books are £3.75 to buy and sellers get £3 (postage comes out of this). It doesn't cost anything to list but I'm not sure if anyone would want to buy my books. I have tried putting books on ebay but no-one seems to want them!!

    Today I
    • cancelled bolt on to phone contract, saving £7.50 per month
    • ordered payg sim cards in prep for contract ending
    • claimed travel and OT
    • checked past OT claims
    • cancelled DS's magazine as he never looks at it!
    • cancelled membership of book club - in case I'm tempted
    • checked bank account
    Today's spending
    • morning scone 50p (naughty I know but was soooo hungry)
    • food for lunches and dinners £15.27
    • still to get a diary for personal organiser (I WILL be organised) - will order online so I don't go into town
    Must do tomorrow
    • present for birthday party DS is attending on saturday - use Tesco's double up voucher!
    • get DS to make card for birthday party
    • get DS to write (or sign) thank you letters for birthday presents

  • Wow you got loads done yesterday!! Putting me to shame!! Great idea about using the tesco vouchers, what present did you get? The thank you letters will keep him entertained for a while hopefully! My DD is about to do her worksheets for this morning and is not impressed lol
