West Highland Terrier Breeders
Long shot but does anyone know any ?
I've done the usual & googled etc ,looked on E-pupz etc but just getting nowhere fast .
There seems to be plenty in England but not many in Scotland & would prefer to buy as close to home (Edinburgh) as possible .
Thanks in advance .

We got our 2 from Avonbridge kennels in Hamilton. I know there's also breeders in Airdrie and Ayrshire. Sorry, not aware of anywhere in the East.0

I got mine from a woman who has one of the cottages on the road down to pease bay. Shes an excellent breeder but that was 12 years ago. Im not sure if she still breeds them, but she is a registered breeder so all pups are excellent and she gives the family tree for all pups, so you can see their parents, grandparents etc.
My aunty is a trainer for the kennel club so ill ask her to ask around and see if anyone is breeding westies just now that have a good reputation.
Is it a male or female your after? Also is it just the one?
You can also check on the Kennel Club webite for registered breeders of westies. HTH

Hey, I am also looking for a westie pup. Have had a look around on the usual websites but very little of the pups seem to be KC registered, many of them are DL registered (dog lovers) and I believe this means they may not be of pure breed stock or their parents may not have had hip / eye tests -- so I'm a bit scared to buy from them. But the price of KC registered ones seems ridicolous, I have seen some for £600 each?
Any info on decent breeders etc would be much appreciated. I am also looking within Scotland but willing to travel down to Manchester / Stafford etc for the right dog.

I think buying a pup where being moneysaving shouldn't be the aim of the game. Keep in mind the basic rules (I assume you know them so won't repeat them) of buying a pup and you won't go far wrong. Have you tried www.champdogs.co.uk? Had a quick look for you. There's only one litter advertised and not local but there are other breeders that may have pups or indeed know of pups. Word of mouth is the best way but good breeders will be checking you out when you talk to them and if they don't think you'll make a good owner they won't pass your details on. Often you'll have a better chance if you'll take a pup of about 6 months as often breeders keep them for a few months to see how they develop.0

We bred and showed a toy breed in the past and also helped out with the breed rescue. We never advertised puppies as we always had a waiting list and sold puppies by word of mouth.
My advice to anyone buying any breed of puppy is to first research your breed and make sure the breed fits in with your lifestyle.
Find out any weakness in the breed eg slipping patellas, hip dysplasia, eye problems etc and make sure both parents have been checked for this.
Always see the puppy with it mother! Do not buy from a petshop or meet someone on say a motorway service station to collect your puppy!
Be wary of breeders who breed lots of different breeds as they may be puppy farmers. Generally speaking you are usually safer buying from someone who also shows in their breed and most breeds have breed clubs all over the UK and probably also have a puppy register.
Expect to be asked questions about the kind of home you can offer the pup. If you arent asked any questions then dont buy from them. If the breeder doesnt care where their puppy is going then they aren't going to care after if you have any problems.
Ideally what you want is a house reared puppy from a breeder who really cares about his/her dogs!
Be aware that being on a KC list does NOT guarantee a reputable breeder! Anyone who registers a litter with the KC can pay to list those puppies on KC list!
£600 sounds about right to me for a KC reg pup.0 -

Pups from Avonbridge kennels are KC registered. Our dogs were £400/425 at the time (2-3 years ago).0
