Getmoreforless is right.. Initially we own 50:50 of the flat.. he put in a higher depost, and pays less mortgage. I put in less, and pay a higher mortgage. Our sums were that we "in essence" we would have paid approximately the same within 25 years.. (slightly silly maths, maybe but we were happy with it)

We do have a legal piece of paper written up that should we split and have to sell the property, whatever we "put in" we "take out" and the surplus or deficit would be equally halved.

I could in essence also include how much we have paid in to the mortgage, if so: Ive paid £15,000 in mortgage amounts, he has paid £9,000 approx. i dont know how this would affect the maths though.

    .

woops unless this is detailed for all types of iinput including the interest it falls short as a document of the intent.

If the intent was to own 50:50 then go down that route

What you can do is look at the residual mortgage and calculate the extra you have each paid off which will give you a bit more, interest should not be included(the OH was lucky to have an interest free loan for some of it) if the intent was 50:50.

The basic problem is you leveraged the purchase of an asset and got it wrong. You leveraged more than the OH the actual losses are the same as they should be.

if only it was £3000, that I could stomach.. gosh that would be almost idyllic
We have in essence possibly "lost" £24,000, and half of that is mine.. :(

So you've "lost" £12k - if you hadn't bought the flat would you have lived in a cardboard box? How much rent would you have been paying?

Unfortunately this week our relationship finally ended, I am devasated, but that is something we all deal with. And I guess this isn't the forum for sob storys.

    :-(

Sob stories usually go in the relationships/families section.

    It can be therapeutic.

Sadly, pretty much all advice is to cut our losses, or try to make our losses minimal.. Reading over some of my posts I feel like I'm coming across as now being money-grabbing, a feeling I don't like.

The situation sucks, it's hard and painful. But I'm coming to realise it's life. If i can accept this then maybe the anger will go away slowly.

I don't think you come over as money grabbing, we're just keen you come out of this in a fair way (I'm not money-grabbing either, in case anyone is intreested).

I've been there, too, it's a massively difficult time emotionally and financially. With hindsight, it's (an expensive) one to chalk up to experience, move on and find life experiences bigger and better for the rest of your life. But right now it sucks.
