Getting it sorted (newbie)

Hi all

As the title suggests I am new to this site, but I have started to get out of debt, I owe £20000, not including the mortgage. When I first worked it out I was shocked, I am still paying for a holiday we took 3 years ago. It all started with a car loan when that was almost paid they offered a consolidation loan, the problem was nothing was really consolidated I kept the cards etc so it just crept up.

Now I pay cash for every thing and I can see a light. In October one loan will be paid in full freeing cash to go towards the next loan etc.

I have read in several of your posts that your house is a mess too, just wondered if there is link, my house is not fit for guests. I hate having visitors, so this is also a long standing goal of mine. The bathroom is now okish.

I plan to keep you updated if that is okay.
Proud to be dealing with my debts;)

Didn't want to read & run! welcome to diary land, you're gonna love it!

I am convinced there is a link between DFW & housework....my theory is that when we start to take control of debt, one of the suggestions is to declutter & ebay etc...thus making cash to throw at debts.....so the more you then get a grip of housework the more there is to ebay...or something along those lines anyway!!!

folks will suggest you post SOA & then cleverer ones than me will offer ideas on where you can haggle & make savings, the best advice i can offer is Quidco for insurance renewals etc, Green Metropolis for any unwanted books (although it is fairly slow) & Music Magpie for CDS.....

    Good luck!

hi and welcome to the boards. I'm convinced in my case that the state of my place is linked to my debt, i got depressed about the latter and gave up trying to get the house sorted, plus a fair bit of my debt was buying stuff so it had to go somewhere. I'm on the declutter thread sometimes, over on the OS boards. Getting rid of some of the clutter is giving me the odd bit of income though so that's good and it's making me feel happier

    Welcome bonnycat

I wish you well on your journey, listen to all the good people on here as they will be able to help you a lot and keep you motivated

My house is heading down the embarrased to let anyone through the front door so I have been de-cluttering

I read somewhere that if you walk into your own house and it stresses you out as soon as you get though the door, this can have a real negative impact which will effect what you feel like doing in the house

Start small, even if its just a bit of work top or a drawer and soon it will start to gleam

There HAS to be a link between DFW and housework! I need to blame something - it surely can't just be my slobbishness!!

The link could just be that there is no money in my budget to pay a cleaner :rotfl:

In all seriousness, it is about control, having or not having it, and there only being so much focus you can divide between everything, so if something is taking up all your energy and focus, there is little left for other things.

The same goes for weight - I have decided that there is little point in me trying (again) to lose weight until I can concentrate on it properly.....every time I try, I fail, because my head is not in the right place - it is too focused on debtbusting!!

There is a definite link between debts and housework. And unfinished jobs too. Living room has been half painted for many weeks, with leaky radiator. And garden is...well...the cat loves it, lots of branches and rubble to hide in :)

But in the quest for extra income, de-cluttering (slowly) and ebaying the housework away!:T
