I know exactly what you mean about the coucil tax. It's funny how the only thing that local government can do properly is demand money off you.
Unfortunately Council tax is a priority debt and the full amount has to be paid. The fact that you are paying £80 a month is neither here or there, it is not the amount that has been set out and the amount that you have been told to pay. Unfortunately you can't just decide not to pay the full amount (That is not me being nasty, it's the way the system is).
Have you and your partner applied for all the benefits that you are entitled to.
Do you rent your home? You may qualify Council tax Benefit and local Housing Allowance.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -
yea we rent are house and we are not entiled to housing or council tax benefits it just gets me mad coz they demand money that people dont have now there demanding i pay 800 n odd pounds well i duno how the hell im gona pay that they just really dont care about people do they there not botherd as long as they get paid it gets me so mad0

If it makes you feel any better it isn't just you. They are like that with everyone. They don't care. It is all set out by politicians and the only thing that they care about is themselves.
Happened to me once and in the end I had to pay on a credit card. You really have to find a way to pay it because if you don't they will keep adding penaltys and fines and generally being a bunch of c*nts and acting like a pack of hungry scavengers at your door.
Work out what you have coming in and then going out and see if there is anything you can cut back on. You might be surprised by how much is wasted and it may be easier than you thought to get the extra money.
I am not saying that I think council tax is right, I don't just that it has to be paid and there no if's or buts about it.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -
Why dont you post an SOA so we can maybe help you with your budget.
Many people are in your position but as the Michaelvintner says its a priority debt so we dont have a choice as to how much or whether we pay it.
Post all your incomings and outgoings and take it from there.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

If you live at the house you need to be named on the council tax bill too.
In which case you are jointly liable. Are you certain you are not entitled to any council tax benefits (or other benefits) if things are very tight for you at present?
This is the budget planner used by the Debt-free Wannabe board - they are very knowledgeable on council tax summons so could post there:

If you have a summons this needs addressing by letter and probably by attending in person, it's too late for a phone call or e-mail.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
That's correct - under the Council Tax (Administration and Enforcement ) regs 1992 the partner/spouse of a person is jointly liable with them - however - if they have never been billed then they cannot be recovered against, the recovery can only take place against the persons named on the Summons / Liability Order. If you live at the house you need to be named on the council tax bill too.

The Council have no choice but to push forward with recovery action as the recovery process that must be followed is set in legislation, pay as billed or recovery action commences.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Is the OP really genuine ? Pot luck suggests that they might spell the occasional word correctly !0

Yes. You live in a house, then you have to pay tax for living there.
I find it hard to believe that you can't afford to pay.welll i pay 20 a week its all i can afford u canrt pay more than wot u can afford its really got on my nervs they are so greedy
Perhaps if you'd studied harder, you might not have to come on here ranting about how unfair it is.my partner is the only one that works im a full time mum to are child and i am pregnant again due 30th october , they get 80 quid a month why isnt that anuff for them ?:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0
