taking out a loan to pay off a debt we cant afford seems a bit silly. If we could afford £100 pm we would just pay that of her debt, but the problem is we dont have an extra £100.
Okay, so what's the plan to repay it then?
We have checked today with the financial ombudsman, and natwest have no right to use the thretening behavior they did. And can not take the house of us for unsecured debts, unless ccj s have been ignored and agreements have been broken. Even then a judge would have to order the sale of the house
This was the response of one or two posts above.

The main risk you run here is what happybroker posted.
They are within their rights to seek a charging order which will secure the debt to the property and can then look to repo if any arrangement made is not stuck to.
Now there are a few more hoops to jump through before we get there, but I strongly advise you not to bury your heads in the sand.

The suggestion to visit the debtfreewannabe forum will help you greatly.

I don't know what your income and outgoings are, but if you are meeting all your commitments except this £100 a month, then you can go through your income and expenditure and find all or part of it.

It seems to me that she/you dont really have a choice but to find the £100. It's really bl00dy hard to find extra money from somewhere, but denying theirs a problem wont make it go away. She ran up the debt and so has to pay it back.

The pair of you could deliver leaflets for £50 a month each. There's always a way out for those willing to try hard enough.
