What to use to get rid of dead skin on feet

Hello
Can any recommend any products to remove hard/ dry skin off feet please? I have looked at the ped egg, but this looks to be very painful. I have also looked at various foot files in Boots and am totally confused as to what the best/ most effective product product to go for would be.
Many thanks

I haven't used a Ped Egg but it looks pretty similar to a Microplane, which I do use. They are not painful at all, although I think they do have a warning that diabetics shouldn't use them.

They are only effective in getting rid of the skin on your heels in my experience - not very good elsewhere, I get hard skin at the side of my feet which I attack with a razor.

If you sit soaking in the bath and wait until the very end to use your microplane (in order for the hard skin to soften up), you will find that it works well and does not hurt as long as you are sensible and not too vigorous with it.

After that, make sure you put some cream (any will do, not necessarily special foot cream) on feet every night before bed. It really helps to keep feet soft.

I could never be bothered with filing my feet, but Boots Gorgeous Feet Overnight Repair Cream (it's called something like that anyway) is an absolute godsend for dry skin. Granted you do have to apply it every single night but it really does work.

At the end of my shower or bath, I give my feet a whizz round with some sort of a foot file/pumice stone or even a nail brush.
Then before bed, slap some cream on, the Soap & Glory from Boots is lovely, but any cream will do...even the cheapo aqueous (?) cream, cover with socks and it really helps.

Trick is to soak feet before trying to remove skin and don't try and take off too much in one go.

I treated myself to an 89p foot file and a tube of Essenti Heel Softening Balm for 99p both from Bodycare last week as my feet were disgraceful.
I've filed my trotters about three times and applied the balm twice a day every day and I can't belive how soft they are. :T

i just treated myself to a pink ped egg and i'm not impressed, its not painful to use, it just didn't remove much, wonder if i need to soak my feel first. I much prefer my footfile from the body shop, its like sandpaper and removes loads, i then follow with a thick foot cream, its an australian one, very good, smells medical though.

I use a normal foot file on cool, dry feet. Try and whizz over them every night before my shower and stand with 1 foot resting on the loo and file all the yukky stuff straight down the pan! However I also have a 2 monthly chiropodist visit. She pares off all the hard skin and leaves my feet like a baby's!! It's like the Forth Bridge though....a never ending maintenance job.

The Australian Foot Balm is pricy, but don't need to use much and is very effective if you get cracks in the hard skin. I think there was a thread on here recently, with loads of info on too!

    I've been Money Tipped!
DH has terrible dry skin on his feet. I use ped egg on him because it removes enough but not too much (when its not your own feet I'm scared I'll go too far too quickly and leave him uncomfortable/sore) then coat his feet in vaseline and put them in plastic bags for a while in the evening. :) meanwhile, through the week he remembers to use the Boots heel balm once or twice, and even though our attention to his feet is sporadic I'm noticing significant improvement.

I also use microplane one time per week, it's not good to use too often, I suppose.
