Tried to Overpay NR forgot!!!!

We've got a NR rock mortage, so we can overpay when we want, we've just cashed in our endowment and paid a lump sum of our mortgage, so wanted to overpay the mortgage each month by at least the amount of the endowment premium.
So i rang up NR to request this last month (within plenty of time to do the paperwork and amend the direct debit), instead of £1053 could they take £1150 overpaying £97 per month, every little helps and all that, its a bit more than our endowment premium was but thought we'd round it up.
Come the 1st July a payment of £1053 was taken not £1150 so today i've rung NR and they could only apologise and say it wasnt done.
They had everything on record so knew exactly what i wanted to do, so hopefully they've set it all up for 1st August now.
Lets wait and see what happens! We are trying to pay them more money and they didnt want to take it!

When did you request they amend the DD?
They normally send you a letter confirming they have increased the DD as requested.. if you dont get a letter I would ring them again just to make sure its in place for August.
If you still have the additional funds available you could make a payment over the phone so your overpayment takes effect this month.0 -
Cant remember the exact date in June i requested it be done, but it was before the middle part of june, so wasnt a timing thing.
The woman i spoke to today said a letter would be on its way now to confirm our new DD. We did receive a letter last month after the phone call, saying what our new "required" payment would be after our lump sum payment, i assumed this covered the conversation, as NR gave me the impression could change the DD as and when i wanted, so didnt really expect a letter confirming the new amount.
Suppose if i wanted to change the amounts each month which means they would have to send me a letter confirming it each time, and they would do this charge free!? Thats why wasnt surprised didnt get a letter last month i think.0 -
11 years ago I had a mortgage with NR on a variable rate and applied for a settlement figure as I was looking to change to a cheaper deal with another company. They called me and offered me various deals, as I had worked for National Provincial I asked lots of questions and then asked them to send details of offers in the post. I received 3 different deals and after speaking to my brother who worked for Bradford & Bingley chose a 3 year fixed rate as we had only 5 years left on our mortgage. For the first few months everything was ok and then they started to take the wrong payment which was on d.debit, i rang them and made up the underpayment for 3 months and then switched to a standing order so I had control, for 6 months everything went well then I returned from holiday in October to a letter stating we had overpayed and a cheque. I the following January I returned home from work one Saturday to a message on the answerphone asking me to call them. I called them first thing Monday and they said I had arrears as they had had no payment since November!! I called my bank and the assured me payments had gone through. To cut a long story short it took 3 years and a lot of hassle before they admitted they were in the wrong, by this time I was in the process of selling my house and my solicitor could not believe their incompetence, the settlement figure was wrong 4 times and only when I threatened to take it to the press did they get it right. Eventually they paid all fees and disbursments and compensation.0

Oh senora sorry to hear your difficulties with NR, glad it all got sorted in the end, still very stressful for you though x
My post wasnt intended to be a slatting of NR, i just thought it was a classic thing to happen, i try and overpay and the mortgage company dont take the money.
We've had our mortgage with NR for about 8-9 years, ported a product over to a new property a few years ago, and have so far been hassle free. In fact, i have also found NR to be extremely helpful and very easy to get in touch with etc etc. I know they are now in difficulties, but when we were looking for our mortgage max 75% LTV NR were the best of the bunch then (for us anyway ) x0 -
I've had a mortgage with NR for over 2 years, & while I've found individual members of staff to be very pleasant & helpful, I have had quite a few problems...
I've done several overpayments over the 'phone, stressing each time that I want the overpayment taken off my IO part (have mostly repayment mortgage, with a smaller IO part) & that I didn't want my regular payments to be recalcuated. Four times they jave managed to recalculate my payments - I have complained each time & finally I think they've got the message! One time it wasn't taken off the IO part....
They have also insisted for the last 2 years that my ex & I have a joint mortgage, despite both of us saying he was just a guarantor on my mortgage - it has taken them over 7 months to get clarification from their deeds department which confirm that we don't have a joint mortgage! Now a different department are insisting I need to put a "marital dispute" notice on the mortgage so that my ex can't "do" anything to the mortgage without my consent. They have yet to speak to the department that know I have a sole mortgage that my ex can't "do" anything to!
This wasn't meant to turn into a rant about NR
- just a note to everyone to check every detail & not to assume that NR know what they are doing! & as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Ours is a similar mortgage mostly repayment and a small IO part, we have too requested the overpayment be made on the IO part. I will keep an eye on it to make sure its being allocated correctly, have just got online access to see our mortgage details online. Hopefully, as we've made it a regular payment rather than a one off payment it should be ok, but must admit hadnt even given it a thought that they may try to reduce the monthly required payment, so thanks for that x0 -

I am MF with NR and now use my account to buy stuff and pay off very quickly
NR regularly forgot to increase my DD but in one case forgot to reduce it so i ended up one month paying £3500 instead of £1750 - that was a BBBBBAAAAADD month !!!!
Anyhow you can overpay with a debit card so if you want to overpay and they forget just overpay immediately with a debit card, they confirm it on the phone and give you a reference number THEN they also follow up with a letter , it may seem a small amount but do it today (well Sat morning) as every little bit really does help
IMPORTANT remember to say you do NOT want your payments recalculated
If it helps i really rate NR in general
Good luckdonstermonster
