Drudgery - Need a new Iron. Can any one recommend a good one?

Hi rat fans.

My rather cheap iron has just given up the ghost and I need to buy one today.

Not being the slightest interested (although dont get me wrong, being a mordern guy, I actually do most of the ironing in our house - family of 5), I would like to know what to look for to make the job go quicker.

Can anyone help?

Thanks :A

    Hello srw_topbloke

You've lost me with the 'rat fans' comment.

Anyway, I'll move your thread over to the 'I wanna' board where it should get more views and responses.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

I was a rat fan! There hasn't been a better TV presenter since!

Personally I've never had much luck with steam irons. They always seem to dribble. You can get "steam generator" ones which have a seperate unit for making the steam. Dunno how they work but I guess they wouldn't dribble. Myself, I've got a second hand electric flat iron from a car boot sale, a spray bottle from Pound Empire and a supply of damp teatowels if needed. I find that does a pretty good job without too much work and is much less annoying than the dribbly steam irons. I don't tend to do a lot of ironing though. I try to make sure everything comes straight out of the dryer as soon as it's finished and gets neatly folded or hung up with no waiting around so creases don't set in.

I hate ironing but the best thing I ever brought was a stream press from QVC it really does cut down on the ironing and if you are doing it for 5 then you need all the help you can. I wish I had one years ago when I had a family and a job life would have been easier for me
