Well I got a letter through telling me I have been rejected! I emailed them to ask why and got a silly response about my grades not being good enough, even though I passed the first year with a very mixed batch of highs and lows and would be allowed to become a nurse on those grades (assuming I passed year 2 and 3 of course, but year 1 was a complete pass with no extra work.)

Am so frustrated now! I don't know what to do, I can't possibly apply elsewhere because I had to do it near family so we can rely on them for childcare. Will have to completely re-evaluate my career choice and do something completely different to nursing. (I don't want to just be a HCA I want to be able to progress in my role etc)

Thanks for your help in this, but I can't bank it seems!
  • Gosh Im incredibly surprised! Thought they'd have snapped you up. So sorry. I do hope you find something that will suit you and your family. Nothing wrong with taking some time out to think about it, good luck!

I had a long chat with my sis about it all and she suggested I do an entirely different course all together, just do a degree that interests me and get a career from that some how in a few years. I thought it a ludicrous idea but she has directed me to everything she could find that would be of use to me. We get working tax credits and child benefits at the moment, on top of that as a student I would be entitled to student funding, allowances and certain grants it seems. I might actually be able to feasibly do this and then have build a career from there. I am feeling very optimistic tonight now, having sat here worrying about what I was going to do!

Does anyone know what things are available to regular degree students? I am 24 in August, have a 6 month old daughter currently, a wife who is 26 in November, she earns roughly 14500 (well she starts a new job in September with that salary) and thats our only income other than what I stated above in the thread (wtc and child payments) If I can genuinely be able to get by paying our rent etc, and securing my future that will be so great, I am so enthusiastic thinking about this that I am almost certain it will crash down on me haha.

Have you tried entitledto.com it asks about your current situation and that of the last tax year and at the end gives you an overview of what you could be entitled to and is usually a good indicator.

If its any help the new job i have been offered is in the same region asyour wife's salary and our tax credits according to entitledto.com work out at around £101 per week. We cant get help with rent and stuff though cos just above the treshold i think. My hubby's JSA ran out so he doesnt have anything but we are in the process of sorting our potential benefits out. As for what you might get as a student i would only assume its the normal student loans? Perhaps check out a uni website for advice or National Union of Students website, thats bound to have something on it with that sort of information. We have a six month old daughter too!
