Hello my mum is 48 and she recently went for the Access assessment interview.
Firts things first the assesment comes in four stages, none of which willautomaticaly bar you from the course. They are looking at your overal performance.
The Interview is an oppertunity for to shine, so be keen ask questions and general be somebody they want to teach. It is essential that you know what degree you are interested in (of course things will change, so take a look at a local uni and see what they offer, what are YOU interested in?).
The literacy test was basic english, in fact just spelling! commone mistakes right/write.... because etc.
The numerical test is basic but if you have been out of education for a while: The OCR website has Past Papers which
has some general papers to get you thinking. You will NOT be able to use a calculator. Specificaly, volumes, percentages, dimensions (area, circumference) and fractions.
Lastly is the Essay.... everyone finds this hard they will give you a topic ("advanteges and disadvantages of being a mature student" for example...) and you have three hundered words max. Remember with Essays. Introduction, Discussion, Conclusion or "say what you are gonna say, Say it, Say what you said".
Good Luck! it is so very worth it
all the best Dan and his mum0
