Hi
I am trying to help my neighbour who has just purchased a new TV with built it FREEVIEW
When the channel she is watching (BBC1) shows the RED button in right top corner (SPORT MULTISCREEN), all she gets is:
please wait................loading.................
and then 'invalid application'
Any ideas gratefully received!

If it's a TV that is intended for use in many countries, it's possible that that the interactive services setting is for a standard other than the one used in the UK.
If you check the settings, it should be set to MHEG-5 for the UK.0 -
What make and model is it? If we know that we can do a search to see if it's a known problem.
Sounds to me like the software is out of date.
The interactive services on freeview (like the BBC red button) are written in a type of computer code called MHEG. The TV will have a programme in it called an "MHEG Engine", which is to interactive TV stuff what a web browser is to web pages.
You know how sometimes you'll go to a webpage and there'll be a message saying "Please update your browser". Well I think the BBCi Red Button application might need a more up-to-date version of software than your friend's TV has.
It might be that if s/he leaves the TV powered on but in standby overnight for a few days, the TV will download new software from the transmitter. But this is just a guess.
I could it up if there was more info.0 -
Hi,
It's a Panasonic Viera Model no. TX-32LXD8
I've checked the settings & it is set to UK standard
I also accessed the software page on the TV and tried to update but it advises that software is already upto date
It quotes 51W 2111-10100 as the current software
Thanks"Hope for the Best

There doesn't seem to be a download sheduled in the next 2 weeks. Will do a bit more digging to see if I can find any more info.
In the meantime, is there a helpline number your friend could ring and ask?0 -

Thanks - My neighbour will try the Freeview helpline once a program is on her screen showing the red button."Hope for the Best
