reclaiming credit card charges

hello everyone,

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice please? I'm about to start a DMP with Payplan at the end of this month. I thought about reclaiming charges on my credit cards & if I was successful then any amount could be paid off what I owe. When I spoke to payplan the other day they told me to stop any reclaiming if I was doing that, I meant to ask more about this but got caught up in talking about something else.

Has anyone got any advice to offer on this please? I was just thinking it may possibly get the balances down quicker but I didn't want to put my DMP in jeopardy.

Many thanks
L

The only reason I can think of why Payplan wouldn't want you to reclaim your credit card charges right now is that if you do claim them and the credit card companies do give you back the charges, they may turn round and demand full payment of that particular credit card straight away (which you might not be able to afford to do), which in turn could lead to them issuing proceedings in the county court and all that kerfuffle.

Best to ring Payplan to ask them to explain why you shouldn't claim your credit card charges.

I can't think of why they would say not to either.
Credit card charges aren't part of the bank charges court case so it can't be to await the verdict.

I may be slightly controversial here but let me start by saying i have in the past used payplan & found them to provide excellent advice and support.

However one does have to bear in mind who funds payplan, and that is the major financial organisations such as banks, finance companies etc.

Now if one was a cynic it could be argued that you don't bite the hand that feeds you! Something you have to decide for yourself. Personally i think this is the root of the problem.

Many many people (mysef included) have succesfully claimed against the card companies. After all whether or not you owe them money is a seperate issue to whether they should have levied charges against you unlwfully.

It is almost inevitable that they will repay any monies awarded direct to your account, thus reducing any outstanding balance. That has to be a good thing as it reduces your overall indebtedness and means you become debt free quicker.

I am not knocking Payplan at all but i would be interested on their take on wht you shouldn't make a claim.
