Is there any way of finding out what credit agencies lenders use to check credit?

The reason I ask is because my equifax report shows up when i messed up with my student HSBC account over 2 years ago, went over my overdraft limit for about 5 months running and didnt realise and ended up with a managed loan to pay it all off, but my experian one doesnt show this for some reason!

I bank with nationwide and rang up about a quote for getting a loan the other day (didnt get as far as applying for it though as i am waiting to get on the electoral role first) and the lady told me that they use experian to check credit ratings, i was just wondering are lenders obliged to tell us what agencies they do use?

And can we ask them first before we apply for credit?

Thanks!

I think there may be a thread on the credit card forum (which may only have credit cards). Although bizzarely some creditors use 1 agency for credit cards and another for loans.

Definatley a good idea to wait until you are on the electorol roll, this will make a big difference.
