Hi,
I am in exactly the same situation as you, the price of the house I am purchasing is £168,500 and I was quoted £450 + VAT as the professional fee plus the usual outlays giving a total of around £1000.
Not sure if it makes any difference but I'm in Northern Ireland and there was a change about 8 years ago I think to make land registration compulsory (I think that's what it was!!) so if it has been done already then the fee is around £370 otherwise it's £110. I'm not sure if this is applicable in GB or not?
