My second payment on account for 08/09 is almost £500 higher than my tax calculation after filing my tax return. I don't want to complicate things and I don't want to reduce my payments on account as my income fluctuates. Should I pay this and wait for a refund or would it be best to request a new statement?

...and don't forget that the HMRC collection accounts have changed, so if you have had it setup as a payee in your online banking it will need to be updated...

Is this just for self employed people or anyone that does a self assessment?
