Looking for a good quality rug

I am looking to get a nice quality rug, for a sensible price.

Had a look in some furniture shops today, but the rugs were pretty nasty and cost over £200!

I guess I would pay up to that sort of money, but only for a nice one.

I would probably prefer to see it first, so any options in the Cambridge/Peterborough area, otherwise any online shops?

Thanks!

  • do you have a TK Maxx nearby? not sure how they source things but they seem to have good quality branded goods at a fraction of their RRP. Last time I was in there they had some fabulous, quality rugs - I had to try hard to resist!

I suppose Ikea would be worth looking at - they usually have a decent selection to choose from, and their price range is pretty wide too. You can have a preview of the rugs on their website, but as they don't do mail order you'd have to go to a shop to get it.

Have you looked in B&Q, one of their superstore depots is the most likely suspect? They used to do a fairly decent range of rugs, not sure if they still do.

    https://www.next.co.uk have some decent ones.

What about Dunelm Mills - they have a website though I don't know the address of it. They will deliver to mainland UK.

I have heard of people getting off cuts of carpet edged - don't know if that's something you might look into if you're looking for a straightforward plain rug.

I got a bit of a shock when I went rug shopping too. Some of the designs are a tad - now how shall I put it - unusual?? And the price tags tend to be just as unusual too for what you get. So far I have resisted getting anything other than machine washable - the thick ones look like trip hazards to me anyway. I'm making do with a machine washable one from Ikea, cost me £9 about four years ago, and it's still going strong. I like it actually, just bung it in the machine and it's as good as new!
