How do I cook plantains?

Hello all

I bought some plantains today for the first time and intend to cook them in better and garlic in the frying pan. Is that the right/best way to cook them pls? I love trying different types of fruit and veg and would value your input. Cheers:beer:

    Hi :hello:

    you can cook them a number of different ways....

    you can
    fry them on their own or with spices ie ginger, or garlic/ onions
    boil them
    bake them
    steam them

    I prefer to fry them when they are quiet ripe (as they are sweeter) in a pan of oil (I use quite alot of oil) and then blot the excess on kitchen towel.

    I like to eat them with baked beans but you can add them to anything really.....

    Best eaten when very ripe, black skin.
    Slice lengthways, then across twice, so you end up with 6 pieces, fry in a mix of veg oil and butter. YUMMY.
    We eat them with a fry up, great with fried eggs.
    Watchyour fingers when peeling, cos they are much tougher than bananas.
