i dont think its right to request freebies from charities unless it really appeals to you. remember that fair trade helps the poorest people in the world feed themselves and their families and to take unnecessarily is not in the spirit of fairness

A similar thread has already run here and if I recall there were a fair number of people who felt uncomfortable with getting freebies this way.

I agree with that and will not request a freebie from Fairtrade (I already buy their stuff anyway), but I think that individuals have to decide whether it is ok or not, after all it is on offer.

I have to say anyone that has a problem because it is a charity is misguided. The samples have been donated by cafedirect, which is a public limited company and sells tea and coffee for a profit. It will be offering these samples to raise awareness of its product and so increase the useage of fair trade tea and coffee.

Fair enough, if you already use it then you may not want to take advantage so that someone else can try it for the first time - but then again why not, because you have already funded the samples by buying their products?

This is business, not charity - ethical and fair business, but they would not offer the samples if they didn't want people to try them.

  • Can I please comment on this?

I am 'for' charities in a big way and would hate to think anyone would 'rip' a charity off, but......

Fair trade tea and coffee may not be something that people would consider buying, but after getting a sample, may purchase in future. And thats the whole point, isn't it?
