Abbey mortgage waiting time

Our buyer has been waiting almost 9 weeks for a decision for an Abbey mortgage. He has sent off quite a bit of documentation they have asked for. Are Abbey likely to string the process out to give a 'no' decision? Is 9 weeks a common waiting time? Time to find a new buyer?
Thanks for any advice.

Your buyer needs to keep pushing them - everytime they ask for more info/documents it could be a stalling tactic as they are so busy. In addition everytime they ask for some thing their name goes back to the bottom of the list.
You need to get your buyers or their Mortgage adviser on Abbey's tails every day otherwise it may keep dragging.
Our mortgage took 6 weeks. Some are coming through really quickly and others are taking longer than your buyers has so far.0 -
Our agent is on the phone almost daily to the buyer and his mortgage advisor. I'm just trying to guess the likely outcome, are Abbey likely to turn him down so far down the line?0

Took us 12 weeks to get our mortgage offer from Abbey a few months back. We kept getting asked for more documents. It was a very stressful time, vendors also very nearly put the house back on the market (i guess understandably as took so so long). We just had to keep pushing our mortgage broker into ringing Abbey for updates constantly. Got there eventually though. There have been a few threads recently on here re Abbey being slow with the mortgage application process.0 -
Thanks for the replies. To those of you who waited a long time, when was the survey done? Towards the end or beginning?0

Abbey normally instruct the val once they've approved the mortgage.0

Abbey are a joke, i would go with another company if they werent offering us such a good deal.
Its been about 6 weeks at least at the moment, we now have a conditional acceptance but they needed to check our wage slips from the past 3 months, which they already had sent to them, so emailed them and today they tell us that they havent got them (LOST THEM) so we have to send and fax again, then it has to be checked and then it has to wait 5 days for the underwriters....i would seriously use someone else but the deal we are getting will save us about £150 a monthThanks

I applied for a mortgage with Abbey and was very concerned about the lead time on getting the offer through. Here's my winning combination:
Use the Scotland office if possible. Keep ringing till you get through to a Scottish sounding person. I spoke to someone in the Yorkshire office but then rang back and got someone in the Scottish office. It took the people in the Yorkshire office 2 weeks before they rang me back again!
Get insurance quotes from them. You're not obliged to take the policies out but I picked up that tip from another thread on this forum and it worked for me!
Be nice to your arranger. He got quite defensive but I was really nice to him and he responded well. Think he's probably sick of moaning customers!
On the valuation front, yes, this will be done right at the end. They said it could take another 2 weeks to get the offer through but it was with our solicitor within days and with us within a week.
Good luck!!!0 -

About a week before we got the mortgage offer for us.0 -
Well, we had a phone call yesterday and the valuation was done this morning. The valuer said there are no problems, so hopefully everything will be OK.
I know all circumstances are different, but how long can we expect the conveyancing to take? Apparently the searches have been done, but that's about it.0
