Hi
I am looking to buy my girlfriend an engagement ring, I was wondering if any knows of any jewelers in central London that are happy to haggle on price, not very romantic but have limited funds, How much mark up is there on jewelry?
Also I was thinking that if anyone wanted to join forces we could use buying power to get a discount, I was think that if we can get 4 or 5 guys who are looking in the London area we could work together at get a good deal..
any suggestion will be appreciated
Rich

For goodness sake, dont buy an engagement ring without her being with you.
You will waste every penny if you do and she doesnt happen to like it. This ring is hopefully going to be on show for the rest of her life.
Go together and agree on budget. Dont haggle, just buy the ring that she likes that is within your budget, she will think your a skinflint.
You have a lot to learn about women. Blessmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

My apologies for the presumption. Its still exciting going to buy it together.
I have been married 41 years (i was a child bride;)) and even now i
remember the special moment in the shop when we bought my ring even though it was just a small solitaire i wore it every day until the stone fell out through wear and tear about 30 years later.
I hope you will be very happy together.
Regards.

From a personal point of view you will get "ripped off" in the "VAST MAJORITY" of high street and local jewellers - FACT!
You only need to look on a few websites on the net to see how much more you will get for your money. Many websites offer exchange, resizing and some may even offer refunds to provide piece of mind.
Make sure that you have done your research on diamond cut, diamond clarity and diamond colour as these factors collectively will indicate the diamond quality.
Also look at the pros and cons of material e.g. platinum, white gold, gold etc... This will also impact on price and general wear and tear.
A ring on the high street can easily be found upto 50% cheaper on the net or why not put the money saved into buying a better quality piece of jewellry.
The main problem with shopping on the net is that you wont be able to see/touch the ring. However, do your research and look at the different styles in shops and make an educated decision on any net purchase. You will often find that your particular style of ring can be found on the net or at worst a very similar diamond setting will be found. The savings are immense.
each to their own...but i prefer the element of surprise - if you couldnt change the ring this would be a risk but in most cases you can.0
