I can't cook beef for toffee mind you neither can my mother :rotfl:

We had a silverside joint at the weekend. It was reduced but has been nearly £8 to start with.

Slow cooked it for two hours on low and then in the oven with stock and covered with foil for about another hour.

    Came out tough :o

Think I will give up with joints of beef.

    Yours

The best two bits of steak I've had were from the farm shop (very expensive but worth it!) and Tesco Value sirloin (I was shocked, I was in the mood for the steak and this is all I could get!) it was melt in the mouth and full of flavour, I've had it twice now and it's been lovely.

I've recently come to the conclusion that most supermarket meat is far less enjoyable than 'proper' meat. I was really pushed for time at the beginning of the month and did an online shop at Sains!!!!!!s for everything we needed for the month, including meat.

I didn't order value products, mainly premium range and really have noticed a difference in taste, especially the chicken. MrS thought I was a snob when I stopped shopping in the supermarket for meat but even he has noticed that things 'taste funny'. I don't know why it's different but it is

I'm not trying to put anyone down or sound stuck up for saying it but I don't think I'll be attempting to buy meat from a supermarket again, it just wasn't worth it.
  • The only beef I buy from the supermarket is mince and stewing beef. If I want a roast I will buy a rib from the butcher. Not very often though as it costs about £12, but it is absolutely gorgeous. Plenty left for sandwiches. It does have a good bit of fat on but that's the best bit imo. The taste is lovely.

We are lucky enough to have a choice of butchers as we live in between towns, they are both so much better than the supermarket and competitively priced. The bottom line is the only semi decent meat in the supermarket is their premium ranges - where they sell you what they should be selling you for an inflated price.
