NEED HELP please with my hair?

Hi i dye'd my hair about 3-4 weeks ago with a medium brown(which was fairly dark 6-8weeks) i decided to dye my hair again but use a light brown(garnier 600 light brown 6-8weeks) i followed all the instructions and then washed it out but it is still very dark it looks more like a dark brown than a light brown :( does anyone know what i may have done wrong?

Was i ment to let the old colour wash out first? Then add the new colour to my natural hair? please if anyone knows why it would be much appriciated

Thank you

I guess it hasn't changed much in colour because a non-permanent colour does not contain peroxide and will not lighten your hair very much.

Also, did you follow the instructions for previously dyed hair, as that has a different development time?

Why not try a different brand, and maybe go a little reddish in tone if you don't like the dark brown? I like the L'Oreal Castings Gloss, as it makes my hair very shiny :)

Thanks for replying do you know of any good non-permenant dyes that gives a nice light brown:) also should you wait until your old colour is completely out of your hair before adding a different dye??

I like the L'Oreal Castings range - they have a good colour range, but there is also Boots own, or Nice & Easy non-permanent. Have a look in Boots or Superdrug for a good selection.

It may be best - why not wash it every day with a non-colour-safe shampoo, to help the process along?

I do my hair about every 6 weeks or so, my colour tends to fade & grow out a bit by then.

Hi, I cant offer any professional advice just some from my own experiences, my DD put black ends in her hair, semi perm from Boots however its still there several months and several hair cuts later, so beware of semi permanent. I use Nice n Easy every 5 weeks or so, I have med/dark brown hair and use it to cover grey however I choose a colour that is much lighter (light ash brown) than the one I want as my hair is not in perfect condition and therefore more porous and the colour comes out much darker, I learnt this after years of trials and tears to get the right colour, could this of happened to you? If you are trying to strip out the colour head n shoulders works well, as does neat vodka but its not kind to your hair:D.

You can't go lighter with semi permanent colour as I think it has been said above, you will need to use a permanent colour with peroxide to go lighter.

Best advice I can give - stay away from home colourants. They are nothing but a nightmare, and the colour indication on the packet leaves no room for other factors affecting the end result.

I would wash your hair in clarifying shampoo every other day (or however often you wash) and then use Aveda Colour Conditioner in Clove. This stuff makes your hair incredibly shiny but also colours it a little bit, and the rich, deep colour it gives is amazing! I love the stuff.!

Jem, your post didn't quite make sense? There's no point dying it and then trying to get it lighter? What colour is your natural hair (or at the moment?) and what are you trying to achieve?

Hi i have darkest brown hair and have been using semi,s for years but now i have lots of grey and it shows through badly, ide like to go lighter but years of semi,s have acted like permanent dyes and i would have to strip it with a colour remover and then hopefully dye it a lighter shade. Maybe that will disguise my greys better, hairdressers havent been helpful and i know i need to get to a lighter shade as i dont want to keep dying it dark, thanks.JEM
