System Has Performed Illegal Operation Message

I keep getting a warning message when I'm on the computer. Its happening on a daily basis now and can happen 3 or 4 times.

This system has performed an illegal operation and is closing down.

Then all my programmes close down:confused:

I also get a message telling me cannot open a folder because the memory is full - close down opened programmes. How do I check the memory and delete all the rubbish to make space.

thanks

Hi, as you haven’t had any replies I thought I could perhaps help regarding your disk space.
Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop, then click on explore, double click on your c drive and it should show how much space and how much used.
Then if you go START>Programmes>Accessoris>Systemtools>disk cleanup you should be able to free up some space.
Also do Defragmenter and it will tidy tings up – but be warned this can take a long time if you have not done it before. So be prepared for this.

I panic when my computer plays up, so I sympathise. Can’t help with the illegal operation though, but this might be a start.

    Hope you get it sorted.

I would guess that you`re running windows 98 or ME and this "illegal operation"is a common problem with these programs.
Search google and download a free program called "crapcleaner" and run it to clean up your system.

Also inspired me to uninstall a few of those rubbish trial programs!

Normally manually clean up my system, but this little utility is SO easy, thanks Browntoa!

Have to confess I found ccleaner site not obvious for the download, and downloaded an advertised one first!

This link may be easier, from download.com.

    Enjoy!

Also, Stressedoutmum, don't forget (if you don't already) to do a windows update, to keep your computer nice and healthy - and more protected.
In Internet Explorer, go to Tools menu, and select Windows Update. It'll look for updates to your windows operating system, as well as driver updates for your hardware (and of course it's free).
It may take some time, if you've never done it before, especially if you are dialling up, but keep going! Some downloads will only install one at a time, so repeat this step until you're nice and patched up.
Good luck, I'm sure with this, and ccleaner - you'll be happily surfing with no interuptions.
