Don't worry, someone will be along to offer some advice shortly. DCA's generally try to frighten you into paying - is it a large debt?

You are absolutely right to do what you did.

You don't have to speak to anyone on the phone. The only thing he would have been trying to do is:

    a. information gather
    b. try and get you to make a debit card payment

Neither of which you want to happen. They can write to you - it's better that they do. If you like, write the standard letter asking for only written communication and then fax it to them so they get it today.

What stage is the debt at? Is it showing as defaulted on your credit file? Have you been making any payments at all recently?

Even if you get people at the door there's nothing they can do - they have less rights than the paperboy. If they don't leave when you ask them to, you can call the police and tell them someone's trespassing on your property. The chance of them sending someone round though is extremely slim.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

    Ok

It is not statute barred but you need to request the CCA and to find the default letter.

Come back when you find it.
