I do hope this is the best place for this question, if not would someone point me in the right direction please.
I am considering using Big Yellow Storage to store some of my household contents for about a year.
We have one close to our home, has anyone had any experience with BYG?
Would be interested in your thoughts.

Big yellow are one of the BIG 3 or companies offering self storage. I worked for a "rival" and as such spent a lot of time visiting their stores.
Most of their stores are purpose built, and as such are geared towards making storing a simple task.
But they are all much of a muchness really. and like insurance companies, you can play one off against another to get a better deal.
A few tips to rememeber when using storage.
Make a list before you get you quote. storage companies will usually sell you the smallest unit you need. (small units cost more per metre than larger ones)
Drawers and wardrobes still have an inside..Put boxes inside them to save space.
Same with fridges, cookers, freezers etc. (no one will plug them in!)
do not use big boxes. they become too heavy and difficult to move.
label clearly all of your boxes, and plan your storage space.
it is a night mare findind out the one thing you need is buried under loads of other boxes
invest in good quality boxes. as you are storing for a year (and in my experience, may well be longer) they will get moved about.
if you need any other help i will do my best to answer questionsNever put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..
