in Cutting tax
Hi,
I've got a second job, so I didn't have a P45, so on my second job my tax code is B, I filled in a form because I didn't have a P45 5 weeks ago, but still got the wrong tax code, i've been told it takes a while, but should I phone and sort it out?
Thanks

Assuminmg you first job pays above £6,475 per annum and your total earning in both jobs will be less than £43,875 per annum then your tax code for your second job should be BR ..i.e. you pay 20% tax on all your second income.0
-
Nah, it's below that, thats why I've got a second job now0
-
Do you mean below £6475?
BR is normally assigned to a second job but you can ask HMRC to split your allowance betwen the two jobs if your income on the fist job does not use all of your personal allowance.0 -
It's below £6475, But I didn't have a P45, so i've got a BR tax code, I filled in a form, P46 I think, 5 weeks ago, but my tax code is still BR, I didn't know if I phone HMRC they will sort it out over the phone?0
-
They can't change anything until they've seen P45 from old job as they won't know how much you have earnt. Until then, you will be on BR.0

I haven't got a P45 because I haven't left a job?0

You have been given the correct code for a second job and that is BR. However if you phone HMRC and explain the situation you can ask for your allowances to be split between the two jobs.
Is your first job much below £6475?0 -
well i've got 3 jobs, ones £2928, And I've got another one for £1116, So I can earn another 2431 without being taxed but i've got a BR tax code on the new job so i'm not getting the £2431 as i'm being taxed on all of it, very complicated.0

So what tax codes have you got for the other 2 jobs?So I can earn another 2431 without being taxed but i've got a BR tax code on the new job so i'm not getting the £2431 as i'm being taxed on all of it, very complicated.
You will get it back eventually. However three jobs are going to make things complicated but not impossible to sort.0 -
£2928 1st Job, Tax Code :390 L
£1116 2nd Job, Tax Code : 257 T NORM
£2431 3RD Job Tax Code : BR
Thanks for your help.0
