I got money for my birthday last week ( ) & need a new camera as I've been using my phone to take pics for the last 18 months & it's now died.

I have 2 nephews, and always have my camera (well, phone.... lol) with me, I love taking pics, I'm very snap happy!

lol Argos have one in their sale just now that I've seen advertised on tele, its KodakC193
this one....... does anyone have it? It seems to be a really good deal, 9MP for only £50, and a decent, well known name as well. I don't need anything special, the one on my phone was a 5MP, but took fantastic pictures. My limit is £60, if anyone knows of any other deals around I'd be very grateful to hear of them! :D

(ps, can someone tell me how to use a word in place of the link? I hate having to use the full thing instead of just "clicky" or something..... TIA! x Thank you Lauri254!)

to get the link you can type then type Kodak etc here [/ url]
Take the space out between the / and the u in the last brackets and it will show up like this
    MSE

Have you checked out amazon or play?
They usually have customer reviews so you can see what other people have thought of the item.

I'm the same with my phone, it's handier than carrying round a camera as well.

I don't live with your brother.............. unless it's him that makes those noises in my attic? lol Who is your brother like?

I have bought a new phone, but I lost my job 8 months ago and have only just started a new one now, so I couldn't afford a new N95 (my old model) I just had to get a cheapy one.

Ignore the 9mp thing. Manufacturers cash in on the fact that everyone thinks more megapixels = better quality, when in fact more megapixels really just means you can print bigger. Something like 4 or 5 mp will print up to a4 or so, so unless you plan on doing poster prints don't bother about 9mp.

The far more important thing when picking a camera is the lens quality. Always pick a good camera manufacturer over a no-name with more megapixels.

Personally from working in Jessops (not currently) and testing hundreds of cameras I can't stand Kodak digital cameras. I would go for fuji, canon, nikon, sony, pentax or olympus.

    How about these?
    Fuji A860
    Fuji A150
or the Nikon L18 - slightly over budget but nice little camera

    Sony S730

    Talking of cameras...

My mum wants to get a new one. Her current one is quite slow at taking photos (a Nikon Coolpix). Even with the red-eye turned off, you depress the button, and it still does a couple of little in-fill flashes then the big one and takes the picture. Or with no flash on you press the button, it does 2 little beeps then takes the picture.

She wants a camera that takes a picture very well and quickly - at the point you press the button or split seconds afterwards. Especially when the kids are over and do something funny, she always ends up missing it. I guess she needs a fast, foolproof point and shoot thing. Thats less than £100.

    Any suggestions please??

skylight - is it slow all the time or just when taking pictures of the kids? (ie, a moving subject). A lot/most compact cameras struggle with focusing on moving subjects.

To be honest I would suggest going into a camera shop and trying them out (get someone to run around the shop for you ! :D ). It's one of those things where people often expect a result that they just aren't going to get from a cheap digital camera and it would be silly to buy a new one just to find it's no better than the last.

That said, I have a fuji f30, and it's pretty damn quick - it's an older model but the newer versions (f50?) may be decent.

Also, try looking on your camera for a 'sports' mode (generally has a picture of a person running) - that can help a lot.

Its slow all the time, but only really a problem when the kids are about; adults stay still long enough for the main flash etc.

We have a Jessops in town, will take her there.

    Thanks!
