re-heat/freeze takeaways?

Is it safe to do so? as we like different dishes alot gets wasted because i'm unsure if its safe to reheat the next day. We usually have curries, fried rice and chinese dishes.

I personally have always reheated my takeaway leftovers the following day ( both chinese food and curries ) .... it's never done me any harm ! ....

Sorry but i have never tried freezing them , so can't help you out on that question ...

This is in noway professional advice, but I've ate cold left-over curry + rice the next day (yummy) without it even being refrigerated, didn't do me any harm, but then other people might be more sensitive to bugs and stuff than myself.

Ideally you should put it in the refrigerator and eat the next day. Wouldn't matter whether its heat up again or not if its in the fridge.
  • we have leftover curry bits tonight :D - I always freeze all the half pots and dishes left, and after awhile we have a full meal, just need to add nan breads and a drink.

Defrost slowly (not in a micro) and reheat thoroughly, stir lots, and enjoy!

    Yum cold curry!!

I've never frozen chinese food as my and OH share so ther aren't ever any leftovers, I have froze indian curry and then just left it to thaw in the fridge before re-heating in the microwave. Make sure with any rice that you re-heat that its piping hot, rice can be a breeding ground for bugs of it's not reheated properly.

To be honest it depends where you got the takeaway from, if the takeaway shop claims they only use fresh produce then I would have no problem freezing it. Years ago I did use to reheat my leftover chinese the next day but the management changed and now when I get a rare takeaway now I get sense that its just been defrosted and heated up so the leftovers go straight in the food compost bin.

Exactly! Don't know about takeaways defrosting and heating up, so much as how long the food has been hanging around there and whether their food handling / storage / food holding temperatures are up to scratch.

Fried rice can be a particular cause for concern. Since the rice will have been cooked most likely the previous day, left to cool (where and for how long???), stored (same questions again), seasoned and mixed most likely by hand (hygienically??), probablyly brought out of temperature control during the busy period and then reheated to serve, taken home by you, hung around in your warm kitchen whilst you eat your meal.............then you plan to freeze it, defrost it and heat it up again...........??
Personally ALWAYS stick to plain steamed rice!!

See if your local council subscribes to the 'Scores on the Doors' scheme. you can then check direct on the website , your local EHO's opinion of the individual takeaway. A particularly telling criteria on which they are marked is "Confidence in the Management"
