I wouldnt touch Viners cutlery with a barge pole - they were the Sheffield cutler who destroyed the English cutlery business by importing blanks from korea and finishing them in the UK and passing them off as British. Koreans got wise and started exporting finished items. Undercutting and flooding the country.
If you compare real sheffield cutlery (eg. Arthur Price) with the cheap rubbish you now get there is no comparison. But I suppose this is a money saving website - quality hell no! As long as it is cheap.Veteran Bargain Hunter -

Get real Somerled - from a quick google it's around £200 for a similarly sized 'clearance' set from Arthur Price. It's like saying don't buy a Hyundai buy a TVR instead - It's not an option.
If you've had a bad experience with a Viners set then please let us know, but if you just want a general rant about what a company did years ago, then there are other forums available. All the World is a Stage; and I'm going through a difficult one at the moment!0 -
From what I've seen around, there's different ranges and quality of cutlery all carrying the Viners brand name... About 5 years back I thought I'd found a bargain Viners set online, but when it arrived I soon found out that it was cheap and nasty stuff... it lasted about 6 months before going rusty. I sent the first set back and got another set in return, but that went the same way... couldn't be bothered to complain after that, but should have done I suppose.
On the other hand, I got a reduced Viners set a couple of years back in a House of Fraser store. It was the proper stuff this time with a long (35 years?) guarantee... it's been brilliant, is nicely weighted and still looks like new.
The additionsdirect one at £79 looks like the decent stuff alright, but I'm not desparate enough to pay that price, even with a 20% code.... but then again...???Ah! Good old trusty beer... I hope you never change.0
