Extra savings at my local co-op
cash-magnet
Just got in from the co-op buying something for dinner tonight and looking at my receipt makes interesting reading.
Co-op has a habit of reducing their prices on products reaching their use by dates, food that can still be frozen for at least a month and fine for that nights meal. There were these salmon fishcakes at £1.69 per pack, or buy 2 for £3 saving you 38p.
They had reduced the last 2 packs down to 89p each so I thought I'd buy them both but their tills still reduced the price by a further 38p.
£1.22. Love a bargain, me!

Co-op has some really good "whoopsy" items, we have one local to us that I never use other than for newspapers etc (to expensive for food shopping!) however I had a quick look in the fridge and found 8 of their large packs of extra lean minced steak for £1 each, when I got to the till they were reduced further to 50p!!!Sometimes you have to go throughthe rain to get to therainbow0

yes theres definately some deals to be had in this way on the "two for-" in co-ops Sh*t bin .
at our local one they normally use barcoded stickers that the till staff are meant to scan , sometimes the system wont read them and the till staff are under pressure so they input it as a "keyed" item so you miss out on the deal .. some you win some you lose so i never complain if this happens unless the cost of 2 reduced items comes to as much as , or more than 2 equivalent fresh items in the deal.. watch your receipt though cos reduced item stickers dont always cover the original barcode properly so it goes through at full price, this could apply to any item not just the multibuyssquaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0 -
Last week popped into ours to get a paper - picked up 2 packs of pork and pepper kebabs labelled £3.49 each buy 2 for £5 - saving £1.98 - each pack was reduced to £1 - so 2 x £1 minus £1.98 multibuy saving = grand total of 2p for 8 kebabs -absolute bargain!!! :beer:0

I also find that there fruit and veg keeps well past the use by date.

I too used to just go to the Co-op for the newspaper, but since hearing they are the only shop chain in the UK to give the farmers a decent deal with milk I try and buy a couple of pints when I'm in. They do have some good deals on at the moment on food, plus they also stock some lovely cakes from a local bakery, so it's a good place to shop midweek to top up the supermarket shop.
And...because our mortgage is with Co-op me and DH recently got £18 of vouchers to spend there, so all in all it's a good shop to have.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
