Rice milk - Help!

After finding out I've got an intolerance to cow's milk, I tried the alternatives.
Rice milk is by far the most palatable for me.
I switched to it a couple of months ago, and feel a lot better for doing so.

But the cost is hurting - £1.45 per litre.
I've been scanning the local supermarkets - Tescos, Morrisons, Asda, Sainsburys - but I've not seen it on offer anywhere yet.
I've also tried cash & carry's - Bookers, Makro, Batleys - but they don't stock it.

The only saving I've found is at Waitrose - 4 x 1 litre pack (own brand) @ £4.99 - but the nearest shop is 30+ miles away so it's not worth the trip.

Does anyone know of a cheaper source, or if the supermarkets do occasionally put on special offers?

Location: Blackpool

Thanks in advance,

Toastie

I also use rice milk, and so far I haven't been able to find anywhere that sells it any cheaper than the supermarkets.
I've resigned myself to the cost and budget elsewhere in my shopping to take account.
    Sorry...
...but hope you're feeling better now that you're off cow's milk!

I have just read your post and I am too considering changing from cows milk and excuse my ignorance of PC language - I dont know how to do links etc. but if you key in 'making rice milk' in your search area you will get lots of sites with methods for making your own rice milk at a fraction of the cost in supermarkets. I hope this helps.

Eddie, thanks for sharing your experience.
It wasn't what I wanted to hear, but I half expected it!
I've found a big benefit in avoiding cow's milk - I'm nicely regular again, just like I should be :D

Brindles, thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
One thing to be said for the ready made rice milk is that the nutritional makeup (including added calcium) is pretty close to semi-skimmed, so I'll probably stick to that for the time being.

toastrack if you are lactose intolerant as most people are who are intolerant to cow milk (if not then just ignore me) then try Lactofree Milk, i get it in Sainsburys £1.29 for a litre. its normal milk with the lactose(ie sugar) removed, so it tastes like normal milk

    for more details
