Can you use Senseo coffee pods without the machine?

Received a free pack of coffee pods through the post this morning (no idea where from or why!) but don't have a Senseo machine to use them in. Does anyone know if you can open them up and use the coffee inside as normal? Also is it "real" coffee or instant as I can't tell from the box?

Any suggestions appreciated. If I can't use them I will ask around and pass them on to someone who actually has the machine!
Thank you to all who post comps and good luck to all who enter :j

If you have a traditional coffee maker or cafetiere then just split them open and use them like normal filter coffee. :)

Loads of us got those pods...I tried this yesterday and found that you can brew them just like tea bags, brew for 5 or more minutes (depending on taste) and they work fine...you don't get the creamy topping though.

I won a box of these yesterday, putting them to good use :)

Darn - I must have missed this competition. My senseo was recalled and they could not repair it (not that I knew it was broken), so I got a brand new one through the post this week. Have not used for ages so need to get some new coffee pods now!!
