looking for small loan with fair credit raiting

Hi,
Me and the hubby are looking to get a small loan(approx £6000).My hubby credit rating on experian is fair, we have recently moved home 2 months ago and have applied for credit 3 times in the last 6 months one application declined(mortgage from natonwide). However we got accepted by the halifax for our mortgage. Anyway our debts are as follows, we have a loan with welcome which is approx £2,500 to pay off (CRAZY APR) and we have credit card debt of £600. We want to get a loan to pay these off and do some home improvements. My Hubby would be applying he earns approx £45000, and has 2 defaults on his file from 2004. Just wondered if anyone had any advice on who best to go to as don't want to get rejected, and have this on credit file!!!!!!

Thanks

I would suggest your husband tries his own bank first and foremost as his internal score may override the defaults. Good luck.
Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!
    Another 3% shaved off 10/12/08
    ANOTHER 4 % June 09:beer:

I don't think a bank would overlook defaults on your credit files. They should drop off next year anyway.

I would have to disagree there. My partner got a loan three months ago with two defaults on his file from 2007.
