Travel from Birmingham City Centre to Solihull
Options
Hello!
I'm in Birmingham next week for work and need to get out to the Touchwood Shopping Centre in Solihull. This will be my first time in Birmingham so if someone could tell me the easiest way to get out there that would be great.
The hotel I'm in is near Birmingham New Street Rail Station, so from it or close to it would be great!
Also...things to do in Birmingham in the evenings? I will be very bored and being stuck in a hotel for a week doesn't sound fun!
Thanks!

The Town Hall and Symphony Hall usually have good concerts on in the evenings, if you're interested in classical music. You can get tickets on the night from as little as a fiver. https://www.thsh.com. Also check out the NIA and LG Arena, but I wouldn't hold out much hope in getting tickets for the bigger shows.
There's also an Art Gallery in Victoria Square, which I believe is free entry. Other than that, you could sample the nightlife. New Street isn't far from Broad Street which is really the heart of nightlife... though it is usually crawling with Students. Maybe not so much now that term is over, but there are still a few hanging around. Apart from that, you could have a look in the Barber Institute of Fine Arts on University of Birmingham campus. It closes at 7 most nights, to my knowledge, but does house a very nice small gallery, which is freeYou can also travel to the campus from New Street, getting off at "University" and then following the signs. I'm not sure if there are any concerts going on now, but you could check out their website.
Other than that... have a nosy around The Bullring. Its open to 8 during the week.
There isn't a train direct from New Street to Solihull, but there is one from Moor Street, which isn't too far away. The train journey is about 10 minutes. There is a bus service from Corporation Street to Solihull, but I can't remember what number the service is.
Hope this has been some help! I only lived in Birmingham for a year as a music student, I mainly focused on the music and student side of things!*insert witty comment here*0 -
The number six will take you to Solihull from Birmingham City Centre. The bus stop is outside New Street Station, walk down the ramp and wait outside Roberts gold shop. It is a pretty long as its a bit of a long and winding journey, 40 to 50 mins depending on the traffic and the horror of the Stratford Road.
You can also catch the 37 and the 41.
The train is much quicker however, from Moor Street a 5 min walk. They go every 20mins but you can also catch the london train as it stops at Solihull Station. The times are on the hour, 20 past and 40 past. The London Train is at quarter past. The trains only operate one an hour after seven oclock at night.
Guess where I live and work! But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more0
