Where to get cilantro (herb)?

A few of the recipes (often but not always US ones) that I've come across want to use cilantro. Found nothing by searching this site...

I have never heard of this or seen it in the shops or on the market but it seems to be a herb. Have I any hope of getting hold of this stuff - I am trying to recreate a traditional Canary Island sauce I had on holiday and cilantro is one of the main ingredients it seems!

I'm almost certain that cilantro is an American name for something quite ordinary. Can't think what though!

as the others have said, it is fresh coriander. you can buy it in packs or as a growing herb (usually pretty lanky & weedy looking) in some supermarkets. but the best source is an Asian or Halal shop where you can buy big bunches very cheaply. any surplus can be chopped (I scissor it in a jug or mug) & frozen. if you give the container a shake now & again during the first few hours of freezing, it'll stay separate & you can take a spoonful or two out any time you need it

    HTH :)

It is coriander. Sorry but I dont like the way they say 'erbs' 'orEGGano' and 'BAYsil' either. Quite irritating.

I sometimes watch the Sky Shopping Channel when I'm bored (yes... I know....I'm sad...) and I LOVE to HATE watching the ad for the 'Magic Bullet' thingy (it's the chop-anything-you-put-into-me-at-rapid-speed item).

What GRATES me on there is that the English chap has obviously married an American lady and he keeps coming out with all these daft Americanisms......

    It just sounds sooooo stupido......

    Cilantro..... BAYsil......

I SHOUT at the tv every time i see it!!!

Imagine how I feel - I live over here. Sometimes I feel like screaming "there's an H on the word for a reason". As other's have said cilantro is coriander, but not, in case there is any confusion, the dried round seeds. If you can't get it, it grows quickly and easily from seed (and just as quickly goes to seed). Also never let us forget that oregano is the same as marjoram.
